ISO Improvement Tender Water Supply Exercise

June 14th, 2008 At approximately 07:50 hours Station 431 participated with fire fighting agencies from 12 South Jersey towns in a large-scale exercise to establish high volume water flows designed to protect homes and businesses from large volume fires. The exercise involved over 20 pieces of fire fighting apparatus and up to 100 fire fighters and related personnel. The exercise was designed to train and test the ability of participating fire fighting agencies to establish a sustainable water flow. This was accomplished by drafting from ponds, shuttling water via "tanker" style fire apparatus and delivering a total of 190,000 gallons of water to the fire fighting point over the exercise period of two hours. This exercise far exceeded expections and goals. The goal was to establish a flow of 250 gpm for 15 minutes followed by a sustained flow of 1200 gpm for two hours. The effort produced a flow in excess of 1400 gpm sustained aeveraging over 1650 gpm and for the lst 20 minutes flowed over 2600 gpm. This exercise is part of the Southern Burlington County Regional effort to reduce ISO ratings. ISO had a representative participate in the exercise for certification purposes. This data will be forwarded to ISO for final review as well as an in depth study of our fire fighting efforts including alarm receipt, dispatch, equipment, training, preventive maintenance and operations. Our goal is to reduce property insurance rates for our homeowners and businesses. Q4314 was supplied by E2811 from the draft pond. T4316 was involved in the tender shuttle and 4311 assisted at the draft site. FP4319 was assigned a fire police detail. RE1712, RE1912 and T2116 covered the region during this exercise.

Passing of Cinder the Fire Dog

May 29th, 2008  Today at 07:20 hrs, we lost a good friend when Cinder the Fire Dog passed away at his home. Cinder joined the Gerber family in 1993 as a puppy but shortly thereafter became familiar with the Station 431 Family. Cinder rode atop many fire trucks proudly for several parades in Tabernacle and Wildwood. He learned Stop, Drop & Roll early on and was proud to teach it to many children during Fire Prevention. He was loved and admired by many children who loved having their picture taken with him. There is an emptiness in the Gerber and Station 431 Family that only time will heal. Cinder will be greatly missed by all his Family & Friends!

After the dash life was completed the floor pan also moved down thus freeing the victim. The victim was the removed from the vehicle and transfer to awaiting BLS and ALS for transport to the landing site. 2007 Annual Report

January 17th, 2008  2007 was one of the most active years in the history of our company and an exciting and rewarding year for the officers and members of the Medford Farms Fire Company. Our suppression efforts responded to 381 calls for assistance from Tabernacle Township and the surrounding communities that we provide mutual to and with. This was a decrease of 1 run as compared to 2006. However, our staffing hours increased by over 43% and our training hours increased by 33%. Our average turnout per call has increased from 14 to 15 members. This is a tribute to the dedication of our 100% volunteer organization and the many spouses, children and significant others that provide support and inspiration to each of our members. This profession is not an easy one especially today with the increasing regulations and mandates being forced upon us. Most are for the safety of our staff but with each new regulation comes an associated cost and additional training. We continue to build upon the traditions that we have established over the years and we continue to foster our partnership with our brothers and sisters from the Tabernacle Rescue Squad. We work hard with our mutual aid partners from our surrounding communities. The key to continue to provide a cost effective fire protection in our community is a regional approach which I will discuss later in this report regarding our Shared Services Study. The award reads as follows On May 15th, 2007, the Aforementioned firefighters responded with the Medford Farms Fire Department to a Wildland Urban Interface Fire in Ocean County. Upon arrival, the firefighters were directed to provide exposure protection at the Barnegat Mobile Home Park. The crew took up a position between two homes and held their position as fire was approaching at a rapid rate. As the fire approached the crew's position, 60-foot high flames began rolling above the crew's heads as they placed hose streams to protect the homes. As a result of their efforts, both homes were saved. The tenacity of the firefighters involved in this incident deserves recognition by the Fire Service and the Citizens of Burlington County.
